The watch has some great features and I hope further updates will make them work properly
The watch is full of gimmicky features such as VO2max estimation, race predictors, personal records, 3D distance measurement, alpine skiing app, etc
Nothing beats it's readability in daylight- Notifications and other smart watch features built
Smart watch features are everything you need - mail, texts, calendar, weather, alerts..
Battery life long enough to support ultra distance eventsGood integration with iOS notificationsQuick satellite acquisitionHighly configurable activity screen profilesCons:GPS track quality is poor compared to less costly units (TomTom)Grey bezel scratches easilyGarmin firmware updates receive little QA in the last 3 updates every one of them has broken a previously working features FW 4.0 activity resume FW4.2 course navigation, and FW4.3 (now revoked by Garmin) got into the wild and caused users watches to lose all applications go and into reset loops
The gps is very accurate as well as the altimeter and compass
The GPS in a six mile run that I would do would be over a tenth of a mile long, and the pace would be spotty at best to the point that I didn't feel the most comfortable going off it
There is currently a bug with software version 3.6 where the watch will lose GPS after an activity is paused
but it does have a GPS which I need and the Apple Watch lacks.
The HR monitor function is great, and the GPS is accurate enough.
The one thing I have noticed recently is that it's not currently very consistent with giving me text/call/email notifications from my phone, at least not as consistent as my regular Fenix 3 and the 920XT I had
but if you like tons of tool watch features and gadgets you will love this thing
Best thing i can say about the watch is it looks very good
There are some thing I like (LOOKS) and useful, But Overall not so good
The first negative thing is you cannot set up an Auto-Lap distance
There are plenty of watch faces to download from (but they do not anywhere as colorful as in the images that you on internet) and lot of customization available
Only complaint is the metal (probably aluminum) case scratches easily.
The screen resists scratch, but the metal around the screen cannot resist scratch
I wear it throughout the day as well as on my long trail runs.
Do not expect this thing to function as well as and apple watch.

Annoying but the watch still work for the most part, then three months in fatal flaws started happening again...watch not connecting with phone, extreme battery drain (needed to be recharged within a day or so), stats being way off, watch alerting to move while in a brisk walk, watch alerting the move bar being cleared while sitting idle at my desk for an 1/2 hour or so, registering a flight of stairs just simply standing up from desk, etc.
I took it for a test ride and as soon as the activity was finished and saved it was immediately viewable on the stats on my phone as well as on my Garmin

There is Bluetooth issue were the watch will not be able to connect to you phone and causes sever battery drain
The face of the watch and the bezel scratched very quickly

The form factor is also one that I feel comfortable using at the office as well as on the running trails especially with the sapphire screen.
It also brings information for sedentary people (although it is not a watch like for them). It's a bit heavy for those who are used to the 920xt, but with daily use one adapts
Some people hate having their watch bothering them all the time though, but it's possible to turn that function off if you're one of them
I do get frustrated when I read reviews and people point out issues with some of the watch's "secondary and lower" features.
I have the same gripes as some people before me, heart rate takes a while to lock on, and is exactly as accurate as a fit bit
customer support telling people odd things ("not released yet" when it was, "no known issues" when the Social team are just about to rupture an aneurysm reassuring everyone that the issues are known and a fix is near). If you want an expensive, pretty activity monitor that only occasionally bugs out while not doing anything, this is the trail watch for you
If you are looking to buy a new Garmin smart watch, keep the watch you have until the problem is fixed, or buy another brand.
i'm sure my review will be better once the problem is fixed.
It's disappointing that Garmin cannot be more specific about when a fix will be issued
Hopefully this glitch will be fixed in future software updates (which get pushed out regularly).Overall, I highly recommend it - especially if you can find it on sale

Every few days when I received a notification, it would lock up and vibrate until it was hard-reset (holding in the power button for 10s).
Garmin has recommended full factory-resetting the unit when this occurs, which in turn wipes out all of the personalized settings, making it a 1.5 hour task when the unit malfunctions.
No data lost when sync'd to smartphone so a hard reset is not an issue for me.
I drew the line when Garmin wanted to perform yet another hard reset.
After hard reset I allowed it to go thru its update sequence and have had no problems since then

As your arm swings, the internal 3-axis accelerometer of the device will measure and record each complete swing as two steps
Occasionally, during certain activities, your arm may swing enough resulting in a small number of steps to accumulate. On the other hand there are instances where a lack of arm movement may result in a loss of steps while you are walking.
