The 1.3mm lead doesn't break as easily as thinner leads

The 1.3mm lead never breaks while I am using the pencils.

At 1.3mm this was better than the 0.7mm leads of most other mechanical pencils

However, if you want a really good solid mechanical pencil and don't plan to use it for hours on end, this product would be perfect.

If the manufacturer would just engineer better erasers, this would be the perfect five-star product.

Love these pencils, they have a great grip and they are better than any other mechanical pencil I've ever used

That said for myself, if you don't mind the feel of these Paper Mate Mates Mechanical Pencils and they aren't too much for your budget, the lead is a great quality and after all 'writing' is what a pencil is mainly about, and too the erasers are great, and unfortunately most of us do often make mistakes.

These Papermate Mates seems to be to pencils Lamy Safari fountain pens are to regular fountain pens; comfortable, functional, economical, and good quality.

The quality of the lead is excellent, it is true they don't break near as easily as other pencil do.

The attached eraser is better than nothing, but as I normally use a Staedtler eraser, I was not bothered by its lackluster quality.

So holding it for writing is not that easy, but product as shown and good quality.

The only problem is that the erasers are an odd size and you cannot order them anywhere.

These are very comfortable in my hand, the lead has never broken yet, and the price is much better than for other 1.3mm pencils on the market (Staedtler, Staples)

The shape is very comfortable to grip - great ergonomics!

The triangular shape of the eraser would make it almost impossible to replace with a topper eraser.

I also love the shape because I am no longer picking up pencils off the ground all day and don't need to pencil grips added to make them comfortable.

The pencil lead provides dark, clear smudge-free lines, but the eraser sheared off the end of one pencil during erasure of said lines.

But the only real criticism I have of this pencil is the eraser.

Eraser tends to break off and doesn't erase as well as the white erasers.

I use them daily, just make sure to leave them in a small pencil pouch, or the box, because the eraser falls out easily and you lose your lead.

The only thing not to love is the eraser: it fits loosely so it sometimes works its way out when erasing, and it's the cheap pink natural rubber kind which scuffs and smudges the paper rather than erasing cleanly.

Don't "clean" the paper well, but I'm finding most erasers don't these days.
