These Papermate Mates seems to be to pencils Lamy Safari fountain pens are to regular fountain pens; comfortable, functional, economical, and good quality.
So holding it for writing is not that easy, but product as shown and good quality.
The attached eraser is better than nothing, but as I normally use a Staedtler eraser, I was not bothered by its lackluster quality.
That said for myself, if you don't mind the feel of these Paper Mate Mates Mechanical Pencils and they aren't too much for your budget, the lead is a great quality and after all 'writing' is what a pencil is mainly about, and too the erasers are great, and unfortunately most of us do often make mistakes.
I run a homework help program and these are high quality pencils that just don't break!!
This is a good set to buy because it can be hard to find replacement leads or erasers for these pencils right now at a reasonable price
The sold separately refills prices are even worst.
I have enough pencils and Lead Refills for years: product and price good
These are very comfortable in my hand, the lead has never broken yet, and the price is much better than for other 1.3mm pencils on the market (Staedtler, Staples)
and I love the size and triangular shape of this pencil.
I don't mind too much the smoothness, but the fatness and triangular shape are most uncomfortable and frustrating and in no way resemble any wooden pencils I have used
Plus the shape encourages her to hold the pencil properly.
Chunky shape makes it easier to grip these with gloves or wet and cold fingers in outdoor and field conditions, plus they are inexpensive enough that I don't have to worry if one gets lost
I also love the shape because I am no longer picking up pencils off the ground all day and don't need to pencil grips added to make them comfortable.
Don't "clean" the paper well, but I'm finding most erasers don't these days.
The only thing not to love is the eraser: it fits loosely so it sometimes works its way out when erasing, and it's the cheap pink natural rubber kind which scuffs and smudges the paper rather than erasing cleanly.
It took me awhile to realize it was her favorite because the lead didn’t break nearly as much as with other mechanical pencils
The points are not as sharp as you get with sharpened wooden pencils and the triangular shape is much easier to grasp and hold in proper writing and drawing position that the average wooden pencil.
