It does help to have some knowledge of the free Audacity program, but it's not hard to learn

The problem was not Audacity

Not only was I unable to figure out how to edit out the dead space--this in spite of several attempts to follow the manual's instructions--I couldn't even figure out how to fast-forward Audacity's digital copy to the place where the dead space is.

The player and the software that came with it was great for transposing my old cassette collection into mp3 for my collection.

This isn’t an audiophile device, but it is a very workable tape player

Also it didn't seem to like reversing, both times I did the player was very slow and distorted until I took the tape out and started it again

This is a simple device, basically a portable cassette player which will interface with your computer via USB cable.

The player added so much noise to any recording that it was virtually impossible to listen to

I can literally get ZERO sound from this....absolutely useless.

If you are looking for a great sound system, this is not your choice.

Audacity has some great features and I was able to remove most of the unwanted sound.

This walkman-sized contraption is certainly easy to use but the hum, clicking, and background noise makes the recordings intolerable

I had to return this, there was a lot of background noise

But, with Audacity you can remove background noise and that's a major plus

when you get to the website to download the software, it’s actually a basement basic version of Audible that’s extremely unstable and gave me a hard time locating the cassette player in the USB port

Background noises, continuous thumping noise and zero white noise reduction

There's a bit of a thumping noise in the recording which could be due to my noviceness at using such a device

The sound quality is low and there is a “thumping” noise periodically

The only issue had while recording 8 tapes, was noted in other reviews, bad static on the second tape I recorded... this was my fault though.
