Reviews around range (5.00 of 5)

  • The dynamic range isn't quite as good as some of the other Sony cameras but it's good and adequate for my purposes
  • There are other Sony and non-Sony cameras that have more dynamic range, but honestly, even for portraits or family sessions where there are moving elements, this camera can grab some shots that others can't
  • ISO range enough not to explode noise all over, dual slot, bigger & better design, Ethernet/wifi/Bluetooth, looks durable too
  • The a9 has a better dynamic range and better low light abilities than the a7r
  • Dynamic Range in shadowed areas is not quite as good as the A7RII, but still better than a lot of the competition.- User friendly

Reviews around shutter (5.00 of 5)

  • The a9 has specs that have not been combined in one camera before: it's full-frame with 20fps, totally silent electronic shutter with minimal distortion (how much, that is still to be determined), 1/32000s,
  • Anyone who has researched the A9 knows its claim to fame is the super-fast auto-focus and ultra-fast shutter speed
  • The silent shutter allows me to shoot at casual events like house parties and around town and with a high FPS to capture that perfect moment
  • It has almost all features I have been looking for (THE 20fps, super fast Electronic shutter speed, improved focusing,
  • The rapid electronic shutter makes street photography a dream.

Reviews around evf (5.00 of 5)

  • However, I did like the feel of the A9 as well as the instant buffer, better EVF and less mushy buttons and dials
  • The EVF is higher resolution and the industry-leading 20fps electronic shutter combined with the 500,000 cycle rated mechanical shutter put it on the high end
  • With a world class focusing system and excellent image quality, you also get no-compromise silent shooting (totally silent), as well as a fast and clear EVF that lets you see your exposure before you shoot, even in the dark

Reviews around autofocus (5.00 of 5)

  • The problem: Eye-AF ONLY works when you assign a physical button to do it and it ONLY works as long as you hold down that button
  • It's got great image quality, almost unreal autofocus, and has fixed many of the issues Sony cameras have had in the past
  • It's an A-Mount camera with a slightly larger body, but it produces stunning images with very fast autofocus
  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.

Reviews around performance (5.00 of 5)

  • The problem: Eye-AF ONLY works when you assign a physical button to do it and it ONLY works as long as you hold down that button
  • While you don't get the insanely sharp 42 MP resolution that the a7RII provides, the a9 image quality is still very good and high ISO performance is excellent
  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.

Reviews around iso (5.00 of 5)

  • In a side by side comparison, the Sony noise reduction algorithm along with a more advanced BSI-sensor put out noticeably cleaner and more useful high ISO jpeg images
  • While you don't get the insanely sharp 42 MP resolution that the a7RII provides, the a9 image quality is still very good and high ISO performance is excellent
  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.

Reviews around shoot (4.37 of 5)

  • Completely silent shooting with basically no distortion or banding
  • This is a camera that focuses on sports, so I want to know why I can't even take a clear shot at people just walking, without having unpleasant blurring & ghosting effects
  • This camera is a jack of all trades, but a master of one: getting the shot, fast
  • With a world class focusing system and excellent image quality, you also get no-compromise silent shooting (totally silent), as well as a fast and clear EVF that lets you see your exposure before you shoot, even in the dark
  • The non-black out shooting is amazing, and once you use it you will never buy another camera for action photography that doesn't have it

Reviews around quality (4.37 of 5)

  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.
  • It's got great image quality, almost unreal autofocus, and has fixed many of the issues Sony cameras have had in the past
  • With a world class focusing system and excellent image quality, you also get no-compromise silent shooting (totally silent), as well as a fast and clear EVF that lets you see your exposure before you shoot, even in the dark
  • a budget and image quality is more critical than “getting the shot”, I would wait for the A7III.I hope this helps those of you on the fence
  • A great achievement by Sony is the super high quality of the viewfinder, which comes close to an optical device

Reviews around focus (4.33 of 5)

  • I do not like the focus by wire, but you could adapt other lenses to it
  • It has almost all features I have been looking for (THE 20fps, super fast Electronic shutter speed, improved focusing,
  • So then you need to switch to "Flexible-Spot Focus" which helps, but...not enough
  • When you are in Flexible-Spot focus, this simulates a Nikon center focus point, but the A9 is FAR, FAR less accurate and speedy when compared to my Nikon
  • , so I have now fired off another 5,000 pictures and I have mastered every available feature of this camera and modified every button to my liking, including the awesome 'focus hold' button on the lens itself, which I discovered can be made to do whatever you want

Reviews around a9 (4.13 of 5)

  • Just a side note, the a9 is pretty comfortable in the hand even without the grip, but I prefer it.- Flip out screen
  • it feels of high quality, but in terms of all weather sealing, etc. is not comparable to the pro bodies of the competition (e.g. the covers of memory cards and ports are not weather sealed). In conclusion: The a9 is a speed monster, and photographers who want this will appreciate the a9’s main feature
  • But the A9 is especially fast and responsive in this regard when compared to the A7.5
  • Just a side note, the a9 is pretty comfortable in the hand even without the grip, but I prefer it.- Flip out screen
  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.

Reviews around menu (4.03 of 5)

  • The transfer can take quite some time with some dozens of pictures, especially with Jpeg (with raw it goes faster - that is probably owed to the software routines of the software, while raw is forwarded without processing), and it sucks that not even the menu is accessible
  • The menu is better than the a7r’s, but still confusing (a freely programmable slot is now helpful to bring together the most important functions)
  • The menus have been improved, and almost everything feels "right" when you get it out of the box
  • The menu and navigation has been improved quite well and responsive, loved the new buttons and dials
  • One has to assume that most of what you see in the A9 will, indeed, be in the upcoming A7III, especially the AF algorithms, new menu structure and speed/responsiveness refinements as well as the bigger battery

Reviews around sony (3.44 of 5)

  • It's got great image quality, almost unreal autofocus, and has fixed many of the issues Sony cameras have had in the past
  • If you are shooting landscapes or other things that need a ton of high detail, I would recommend the Sony a7RII or the Canon 5DS-
  • Sony made several mistakes in this flagship camera
  • The professional lenses are just as big as common DSLR lenses, but they also offer great small lenses that you can use as well (Sony / Zeiss 35mm f2.8, Sony 28mm f2, etc)-Touch to focus display
  • Not having dual card slots was a deal breaker on previous Sony models, so I'm very happy Sony included that.- Small form factor

Reviews around warn (1.80 of 5)

  • and some don't display the overheat warning, I would have expected Sony by now on the A6300/A6500/A7RII understand why and how to design it to be better dealing with the small body heat buildup!
  • At 50 ISO the 7RII outshines the A9 as well as at 6400 ISO.
  • The problem: Eye-AF ONLY works when you assign a physical button to do it and it ONLY works as long as you hold down that button
  • Since then I have not heard any complaints about the overheating warning, and still no reports of cameras shutting down do to overheating.- Banding
  • I think Sony is heading in the right direction, nice lightweight with a good grip better than my A7RII, when the AF locks on is great, but my major concern was the overheating warning and all the new FW does set the trip temp a bit higher and my concern for $4500.00 camera is heat is NOT GOOD for the electronics and can cause early electronic
