Without user replaceable cells, most people will either scrap the unit or send it in to TrippLite for what I would imagine to be an expensive battery replacement service.
I gave it 4 stars for one reason: I would prefer a user replaceable battery bay.
Operation would not burden a user, but would make information available on demand.
Normally, I would rate that as a pretty good success rate, but we just found out that these units don't have user replaceable batteries
The fact that the batteries are not user replaceable is also a major issue for me.

We contacted Tripp Lite support about this, and they have so far done nothing but insist that this problem is 'normal' for when running a PC off the UPS.This tells me one of a few things has to be true:1
I contacted Tripp Lite support (which costs you a long distance call, because they do not have a 1-800 number!!
A recent call to the Tripp Lite Support Team to discuss these issues was met with a brick wall for Mac support - but after prodding the first tech into getting a supervisor on the line, he indicated that a Mac version of their
I contacted Tripp Lite support about this issue, and they claimed that this is standard behavior
The clearly defective units are one thing, but the refusal to acknowledge the problem from Tripp Lite support is just unacceptable from a supposed industry leader

However it would be a great device if Tripp Lite fixed these display issues.
and I trust this device with some very expensive computer equiptment
This was a purely cosmetic problem, since the device was working perfectly
The device is good for three hours, though my electrical service was out for about 10 minutes.

Like most ups, half of the outlets are surge and battery backup, the other half are just surge protection.
Has 4 power backup outlets and 4 surge protection outlets
Now the surge protection only side is great for things like speakers and printers, but if you plug your computer into the wrong side, you won't get the battery backup feature.
Like the option of 5 plugs for surge protection as well as 5 plugs for battery backup.
When the batteries on my APC BR1500G failed the self test after 5 years I figured this would have been a good time to get a rack mount UPS for my server rack

I feel like there’s some false advertising going on here
It works as advertised, pull the power from the UPS and the Mac will stay powered up until it reaches the preset time on the SHUTDOWN slider on the UPS setup.
This Smartpro battery backup works exactly as advertised.
FreeBSD and MidnightBSD to panic as it thinks it's an input device (mouse etc
Beware as they just shut off and never turn back on again.

This time the unit worked as it should, display showed full charge, and with a two hour power failure earlier this week it ran gave me time to shut the system down
She was extremely helpful in listening to my predicament and making suggestions for the best way to handle my damaged equipment
Beware as they just shut off and never turn back on again.
I have not had to test it during an extended outage yet, but I am confident that this Tripp Lite unit would provide enough power long enough to enable me to shut the equipment down in an orderly way.
This is a good way to protect your electronics at a cheaper price than APC.

I like the display and the ability to rotate it which I did so that I could lay the unit on its side
I don't know if this is a physical display failure, a display circuitry failure, or a firmware bug in the microprocessor controlling the display
A control to dim the display would have been a nice addition
Also, if you are using these in a home theater environment, where it will be visible, I do like that you could choose to linearly dim the display (slide dimmer switch) or pop it out and rotate it 90 degrees so it can sit vertical or horizontal
I have replaced about 60 batteries, around 11 volts (according to a Fluke voltmeter--NOT the internal inaccurate display), which is when we discovered they fail to power a small PC for more than 15 seconds

Update on September 28, 2012:The display is currently working, but has stopped and started working a number of times during the months I have owned the unit.
However, capacity, functions and smoothing out power to my high end components worked very well through a power outage.
While the unit worked reliably for about 18 months, the LCD screen suddenly died and is now completely blank.
This UPS may not have been perfect, as it seems that a USB port on my monitor failed (the LCD screen works), but it fared the best of all of my surge protectors and UPSes
The device has worked flawlessly, im happy to know my tv is safe.

In all, this is a great unit and for 1000VA, it's a good deal.
and it's not worth dealing with the manufacturer.
Beware as they just shut off and never turn back on again.

The unit is completely unresponsive and has definitely had only light usage
Great unit, Lots of power ports,Small footprint and is rack mountable.1200VA and 700W is decent enough for the smaller devices like switches, routers, firewalls, modems and small servers
My particular unit you can hear something rattling inside it.
The unit was great for two weeks then the display became unreadable.
In all, this is a great unit and for 1000VA, it's a good deal.

Almost immediately, I smelled the horrible toxic plastic or who knows what odor

I have noticed the bright blue lights at night, but mine has a quiet fan that I don't notice
All of the outlets are on backup, no surge only outlets, and most annoying the cooling fan runs all the time - not loud, but enough to notice in a living room environment.
The cooling fans run 100% of the time, even with no load connected whatsoever.
My only complaint is that this UPS has an extremely loud fan.
The unit works fine, but the fan that comes with this thing is so ridiculously loud, it sounds like a tornado is a foot away

But if it goes south, as mine did today (shut off intermittently, failed self-test by shutting down because the battery was on its last legs

I guess I was lucky that the at the time of shut down, my hard drive was not writing on the disk
All devices connected to the UPS will suddenly get cut off from power; this is very bad for hard drives!
Running a 2016 iMac, audio interface, Cisco network switch, and iMac peripherals (external hard drives, etc) and still only hitting about 15% of the load, so my battery backup time is calculated to be ~35 minutes.
It was quite panic, as such shut off may cause hard drive damage (actually file structure damage) if hard drive was at same time writing on the disk

When the batteries on my APC BR1500G failed the self test after 5 years I figured this would have been a good time to get a rack mount UPS for my server rack
I had a storm last year that crippled about $3000 worth of equipment when a bolt of lightning struck very close
There is not a single unit on the market that is 100% safe during a direct lightning strike, so make sure you have a backup
When the batteries on my APC BR1500G failed the self test after 5 years I figured this would have been a good time to get a rack mount UPS for my server rack
No lightning strike, etc, the UPS just failed to come back on when the power bumped so my filter pumps stopped working.
