If I only have drives in the left side of the unit, it would be nice if only the left cooling fan turned on and vice-versa.

The internal fans are UNUSUALLY valuable when extended transfer times are involved (hours/days)

This unit automatically turns off both cooling fans when all drives are turned off

Each cooling fan has an adjustment control on the back of the unit to adjust the speed of the fan or turn it off completely

LED lights are also very useful - they tell you when each of the 4 drives is powered on and also when each drive is being accessed

The 4 blue LED lights are bright so you may want to put something over them if the bright lights are too much for you at night

For now, works as expected.

last weekend I lost my first SSD in 9 years(!), and was able to quickly verify that the drive was indeed physically unrecognizable (and not just a failure of my PC's SATA controller, for example).Of course, this one is faster now with USB 3.0, keeping the throughput only limited to the speed of the drive you are using

Partially this seems to be motherboard's own SATA controller matter as well since currently i'm using Gigabyte board.

There are several plugs for global use, but the system of tabs to secure the plug is kind of weird: you have to get things lined up precisely which is more difficult than you might think

Set up is simple: plug the cord from the AC adapter into the unit and then put on the right plug adapter plate

Again works great, have 2 hard drives plugged and after the computer is on its easy to turn on both hard drives and can access both.

A fine four-bay docking station (dock), but with an inadequate power supply that prevents full use with the heaviest hard drives

Here are a few reasons why I recommend this dock over others.1

I would say it is overpriced for what it is, but with built in fans and the ability to individually power on/off any of the 4 drives, it is in my opinion the best 4 bay drive dock you can buy

The same drives, with the same USB3 cable, going to the same USB3 computer port, will connect immediately in a cheap dual dock.

less expensive USB 3.0 docks that have cost me dozens of hours doing data recovery because they would stop responding during long file

This is the most unreliable USB dock I've ever used.

My drives are either working very hard, or idle, with little in-between

CineRAID has a dual bay dock that suffers from the same unmounting issue as the CineRAID (but that's not an issue if you only use its drive cloning feature).Removing one drive while the other remains mounted is well within the range of use any company should expect a customer might attempt, so shame on CineRAID and Startech for not simply noting in their product description that you need to unmount both drives before removing one
