Final Fantasy Chronicles: Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy IV
Product description
This old school compilation from Square includes "Final Fantasy IV" (known as "FF2" as a 1991 US SNES release which introduced the Active Time Battle system) and "Chrono Trigger" (1995's precursor to the wildly popular "Chrono Cro...
The battle system is smooth, the music perfectly accents the story and game (from the creepy music at Magus's Castle to the battle music at each of Lavos's three forms)
Both have absorbing stories, good music, and characters you want to care about
It does not have the side games like the newer games but has a good story line, great music, and interesting characters
The graphics are quaint and cool, the music is wonderfully energetic and the gameplay is topnotch
The graphics remain very colorful and appealing even now, and the music is good if rather "cheap" sounding compared to modern games
This is for all you unfortunate game players who think the Final Fantasy series is best series since the invention of Pong.....sorry, not in my book, it fact, I rate it the worst RPG ever created.
Chrono Trigger is arguably the best RPG ever, and is without question one of the best on the SNES.
Chrono Trigger, An Amazing RPG, Once One Of The Hardest SNES
Squaresoft decided to combine the best of these 2 games and created Chrono Trigger and made it the best game for the SNES system, as far as RPG's were concerned.
Chrono Trigger, on the other hand, is a prime example of a classic RPG.
So, before I begin this review, I would like to qualify that I'm a huge Squaresoft fan: I have played thirteen different final fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, and Xenogears
Sure, the story's a bit cliched but this game is such a joy to play that it can be forgiven
Chrono Trigger boasts a great story with likeable characters and multiple endings.
The story is very complex and it is hard to keep up with, especially with several time periods and many things happening at once
Final Fantasy IV boasted great graphics for its time and a good involving story
I just can't enjoy those incarnations of the game as I can't see child-like characters dealing with mature social, political, and intimate issues.
The game's major flaw was how slow your character moved
The characters are very memorable and even if you were playing today, you'd be rooting for them during the game.
The first time I played FFIV, then known as FFII, I was blown away by the dancers, explosions, spells, battle systems, story/plot line, characters, and overall game play
The characters had character and while I didn't care for some (Marle, Magus), those I did care for (Frog, Robo) warmed my heart when they were affected by the story
I just can't enjoy those incarnations of the game as I can't see child-like characters dealing with mature social, political, and intimate issues.
but if you are only interested in flashy graphics and couldnt care less about gameplay, music or story, well you really
Great graphics for the time, and about the best music I've ever heard in a video game
They exhibit the worst graphics I have ever seen on the PS1
This was an early snes games so it has fairly primitive graphics although to those of us who are long time gamers it is neither a problem or a hassle to venture in the realm of nostalgia
Gameplay is, in my opinion, superior to that of any of the Final Fantasy games
The gameplay is solid, and the added cinemas are decent.
Its a pretty atrocious story, and the gameplay gets a little rigid at times.has historic value for the Final Fantasy series, but i only recommend it for hard core fans
I just can't enjoy those incarnations of the game as I can't see child-like characters dealing with mature social, political, and intimate issues.

Once you beat the game, you have the option of using "new game+", which allows you to start with the same power, and most of the items, that you'd gained along the way the first time
and try to ignore the load times, this game is worth it all the way.
A game this epic is best played on the Super Nintendo, not the Playstation where you have to sit through painful load times
Besides, with such a great game like Chrono Trigger, i eventually was able to ignore the load time.
The music is better composed than in Chrono Trigger, the characters are almost infinitely better, the battle system and interface are very easy to use, and even if you've played though it on the SNES a thousand times, unlike Chrono Trigger, this game features something new on the PSX.Yes, it's sad, that while FFIV was greatly enhanced and a totally new experience on the PSX, Chrono Trigger remains almost completely unchanged from what I can figure out.
The backgrounds are plain, the animation of sprite characters are pretty basic, but minus, the superb 2-D monster designs
The Bad:The only thing that could have had a little more work is the incredibly slow loading times
the random battle loading screen is like the SNES version, the switch between field/world map to the character menu while loading is fast as hell (while sadly Chrono Trigger is slower than the 2 FF games for the Anthology collection and even slower than the other Final Fantasy games for the PSone Era (7,8,9)
Only downside to this is the slower loading times between scenes
Final Fantasy 4 has very fast loading time on this and it really makes me wonder why Square couldn't have made Chrono Trigger faster
The backgrounds are plain, the animation of sprite characters are pretty basic, but minus, the superb 2-D monster designs
Final fantasy IV suffers some major slowdown when you use menus in combat, and the load times before battles and switching to the sub screen in chrono trigger are absurd
Sad to say,the slowdown is MUCH WORSE than FF VI for CT and not-so-smooth controls
The only real problem with Chrono Trigger is the terrible slowdown that plagues the game
The backgrounds are plain, the animation of sprite characters are pretty basic, but minus, the superb 2-D monster designs

The two classic RPGs in this compilation not only represent hours upon hours of story, character, and action, they also present the background for two recent bestselling, critically hailed games: Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross
With all the different names for the original 1991 release of the first title in this compilation (Final Fantasy IV in Japan, Final Fantasy II in the U.S.), role-players new to the game may get confused
Make no mistake, though: Final Fantasy Chronicles marks the first time this pivotal installment of the cherished game series has ever been available on the PlayStation
In Final Fantasy IV, players take on the role of Cecil, a loyal captain who questions the orders of his king, and for it is sent to slay a mysterious beast in a nearby valley
In Chrono Trigger, Chrono must follow princess Marle's teleportation through time and locate her before an intergalactic parasite arrives to destroy the world
The original game, also on the PlayStation for the first time, was one of the first nonlinear role-playing games
The decisions that players make during the game will point them toward one of more than a dozen possible endings
These new versions retain the authentic Japanese SNES stories and characters while updating their graphics and adding new full-motion video sequences and other features.
