Still waiting for myAT&T Internet support provider to FedEx me a brand new sim card with a non contractual month to month rollover plan free of charge.
Bought this to get WiFi at our cabin in the Smokies where no internet is available
I recommend to anyone looking for affordable, reliable home internet.

This is what amounts to a portable internet connection that doesn't rely on someone else's wi-fi, that may not be secure.

I gave it 3 stars because in spite of the fact that it is well built, good interface, easy to understand and read, and the claimed features are excellent, I didn't get to test any relating to wireless hotspot functionality - I just read the documentation and reviewed the feature controls on the device in their nicely done graphical touch interface - due to the activation issue
It has a nice intuitive user interface and Netgear makes an app for iOS and Android to administer it.

Oh so much better than my older unite hot spot, worth every penny
I got 1 to 0 bars of LTE with my old Unite hot spot in the forest, middle of nowhere
One spot I like is the building lobby where a large indoor space is available for the general public to use, with chairs, benches, tables and a Starbucks

Fifty bucks a month for 5GB of data (which resets every 30 days) is pretty awful, especially when there are prepaid Android phone plans out there with UNLIMITED data (plus talk and text) for forty-five bucks per month or less
You'd still have about the same (or better) coverage, and the price would be the same (or lower) with unlimited data instead of a 5GB limit
(Without the battery, the rest of the device is ridiculously lightweight.)However, AT&T's LTE network as well as data pricing are the main problems.
If AT&T would lower the pricing to a more reasonable level (I'd say thirty bucks a month for unlimited data is fair, considering their coverage and speeds
A blue LED constantly blinks, even when no data is going to it (like when my laptop is off and the hotspot is in my pocket
I ordered this for my bride (Meeting Planner), so she can work remotely in 4/5 star hotels (breakout and conference rooms), where WiFi is not as "guaranteed" or as "reliable" as hotels claim.
These babies even work flawlessly in airports, where you usually pay $20 for substandard (at best) WiFi, or risk using an "open" free WiFi service.
Inside is a recent Qualcomm chipset that supports all the LTE bands as well as dual-band WiFi over 5GHz 802.11n ("2x2 MIMO")
This fills the need until there is WiFi available to me where I live.[prm
It is great to have as a backup wifi connection for when there isn't wifi available and cell connection is spotty.

There is a G class (2.5ghz) secondary band available as well, so you can even link up to devices farther away, or connect to older B/G Wifi printers, etc.
The 5ghz isn't used all of the time as many laptops only support the 2.4ghz band, but if you've ever found yourself in a crowdded conference with everyone else trying to use wifi, having devices that can work on the less crowded 5ghz band is advantageous
However, AT&T LTE is not really fast enough to take advantage of this feature, because a single 802.11g/n band is enough for LTE's speed

I've read reviews that say it improves reception
Works well, great reception for me, I use this everyday for my primary internet access

As someone who pays for his own mobile data, I sure wish there had been an affordable plan, or maybe something like AT&T's competitor that offers throttled speeds after you hit your monthly allowance
This being an outated model by then, I did find an inexpensive 3rd party battery and the hotspot is still my primary internet connection at home, giving me reasonably fast speeds and good reliability.
It has very fast speeds however it is package in a capsule of early 2000 technology.
The AT&T service is really fast and has great down/upload speeds.
Almost every public WiFi network I've been on has been next to unusable due to awful speed because everyone else is on it

Doesn't work as well as the newer Unite Explore, which has a better modem.
Did not work as well as I had hoped, but it was better than no signal at all.
