All metal construction, the lead guide tube retracts into the body for protection when not in use, good for pocket carry because of the ability to retract the lead tube in the body when not in use, good balance and feel when writing.
This Rapid Pro is the opposite, I have the 0.7mm version and this pencil is long and the barrel is bigger
The Rapid PRO is better made, looks better, and feels more substantial in the hand.
I was hoping to get the nice " heavy metal " old rotring , the rapid pro is nice and still looks like the old one, but iit has this sliding pipe that for those who still draw the old fashioned way, is a real lead breaker
This Rotring Rapid pro is up there too and in fact I'd put this in first place.
This ROTRING rapid pro turned out to be a throwaway as well.
The top and bottom halves are nice solid metal, a bit confused why the two very solid halves are joined by plastic.

He's tried it a few times and likes the balance as well as the fact that he doesn't have to sharpen his pencil when using this one (found out that architects use different thicknesses for different parts of a building drawing), so he's already let me know that for Christmas next year he could use a .5mm pencil :-)
I like the fact that the lead and tip retract, so I can carry it in my pocket.

It has a nice weight to it which makes it easier to write for long period because I don't have to press as hard to get solid, even lines and writes very precisely
I prefer the thicker, darker lines of the .7mm but when very detailed drawings are needed I grab for the .5mm
This model appears to be an update to Rotring's legendary 600 product line.
We find the .7mm lead to be the perfect compromise able to create fine lines without the delicate breakablility of .5mm lead
