This was not reliably the case with combinations of NIC chips and some Netgear switches (not all). This switch supports jumbo frames/packets of up to 9K which makes it a good choice for high performance in small/medium offices with NAS servers like the Synology DiskStation DS214

I received a same-model replacement right away, installed it, sent the bad one back, and, after a couple weeks of solid performance, chalked it up to a one-off bad unit
They packed a dead unit received from someone else and shipped it to me
Our IT guy ask me to purchase this to replace our old "switch" and recommended this unit
The unit is metal, sturdy, has an on/off switch and power in the back, and all the ports in the front.
Well, the old unit drew 2 watts and this one draws 3 watts
So, my internet stream is going into my router and out to this switch and the switch AUTOMATICALLY figures out which connection is which and what speed will be best for that connection
Very good, well constructed steel housing, good speed and no connection issues so far
works good for a week or so, then it seems like the caches fill up and speeds slow down
Power cycling will resolve the issue for a few minutes, then the link will drop and come back with the wrong negation speed and continue to blink on and off

Basically, all I need is to have some hot ports in all the bedrooms, and my video game consoles hooked up in the living room and for that, this switch has performed great.
They both replaced aging Netgear switches that each had accumulated several dead ports
Great 8 port unmanaged switch that is just install and forget
Good price for this 16-port smart switch, easy to install (plug and play), works great
All ports powered up and work fine (no dead ports!) - not one glitch since!
I needed a 10+ port, metal enclosed unmanaged device to power all the hard-wired ethernet jacks in my home
Having a hard wired connection makes many tasks faster for me versus using our wifi network
Say you have a 1080p MKV video file that is 32GB, on a hard wire connection between 2 gigabit computers it would take roughly 4 minutes and 16 seconds to transfer
Say you have a DVD rip that is 2.5GB, on a hard wire connection between 2 gigabit computers it would take roughly 20 seconds to transfer
Internet source to the switch was obviously hard wired with nothing between the switch and a BRAND NEW 30 day old modem out of the box

Has kind of an annoying high pitched whine to it but its not really a problem since its in my basement far away from where I would hear it
