Beautiful piece of inexpensive furniture but be careful when assembling because a lot of the holes are misaligned requiring re-drilling of the pilot holes, also one of my pieces of wood that hold the top shelf was cracked but it is still functional with just three screws holding it down.

There was a nick on one of the side pieces and no pilot holes drilled on the top piece.

Some pieces had minor cosmetic damage on arrival but not in noticeable places once assembled

You have to be very careful putting them together though, you can split the wood shelves, but go slow, and it will be a very sturdy shelf

There are many complaints about defective products, but I've ordered several on overstock and Amazon- depends on prime shipping and actual costs-- and the wood hasn't been damaged

My only tip would be to leave the screws slightly loose until the end and then tighten everything down

It was probably one of the more difficult things ive ever put together

The only bad thing about these was they were a royal pain to put together, and the instructions aren't as clear as they should be.

One gross thing is that all the wood had an oily residue that off-gassed for quite awhile.

It's definitely not as dark as the target one, more like dark cherry than espresso, and 5 tiers is misleading

The problems that others list, such as the wooden plugs splitting the wood, twisted and warped boards, etc. are true

The boards are a bit thin, so it seemed the screws were going to crack the boards.

The book case is really beautiful but the manufacturing of it is crap

I'm not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, maybe a manufacturing defect from a certain time period.

I have put together dozens and dozens of things like this but have never seen a more poorly manufactured 'bookshelf,' not to mention the atrocious instructions and packaging

Some minor manufacturing issues for fastening placement, but looks great.

Prone to cracking, made worse by the sloppy pre-drilled holes.

The top of the bookcase was never drilled, a nail was sticking out on the side, and the crosspieces in the back were misaligned

My only real complaint is that the holes are not drilled into the top, and the screw holes were not cut as deep as they should be, so several screws did not reach as deep into the top as they should, leaving it a bit too loosely attached

One shelf cracked while screwing it in it seemed as if the hole drilled for the screwed to follow may have been crooked
