This was a great replacement for my old Xbox 360 drive, one thing that you should know is that this will work fine for DVDs, but if you want to play games you'll need to flash the firmware onto this drive

There is a tiny bit of VERY EASY soldering required but if you have NO experience I would recommend getting someone else to do this so you don't burn up the board.
It is as easy as soldering a few wires and swapping a few wires.

There are six wires that you need a fine tip soldering iron to remove (Lowe's or Home Depot)
In order for this to reads games you have to change circuit board from original xbox 360 drive, otherwise its only gonna read dvds and not video games, there is some soldering required but its not difficult, after swaping and soldering it works like it should.
It took some work to swap it out, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who relies on the warranty or is uncomfortable around a soldering iron.

I called company and as usual no one took responsibility for such poor work
I simply replaced the board on the new drive with the old drive's board and my system has been working just fine without any read errors.
After I swapped out the board on the drive my Xbox is working great again
Replacement for disc unit which was repeatedly showing disc unreadable errors - replaced and made necessary changes to parent board - Voila - perfect read every time!

and I only had one unreadable disc message so far, though I believe it was because I had just replaced the drives
Like other reviews have stated - Make sure you match the model number on your current Xbox 360 drive or the replacement will turn into a big headache
but...I did purchase this one, which was the same model number as the one in my console and got the same results as Andrew who previously reviewed and that is worked for dvd's but not games.
It Only says “play dvd” plus it’s the wrong model number
Was suppose to be same model number as drive pulled from my xbox
