To me, it's like Guitar Hero or Rock Band with a real guitar
The Rocksmith franchise is a niche product as it caters to those who really want to learn to play a musical instrument but enjoy the playing format of Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
Those familiar with the Rock Band or Guitar Hero games will find the format very intuitive, but MUCH more challenging in the more advanced levels.
So if you're looking for something more arcade-like, look to the Guitar Hero franchise or Rock Band
I was excited to possibly play a 'real' Guitar Hero / Rock Band on my Xbox One
The default has the low "E" as the top string and this can seem to be helpful at first but it will really throw you off then you start to use TAB books.
I also use a splitter to connect my guitar to an amp and the xbox one which lets me alter my own guitar sound and sound level for a great playing experience.

There are special lessons to teach you techniques along the way, plus it encourages you to try the mini games for practice
He is learning to play electric guitar and this is really helping him by making the learning fun instead of just lessons.
There has never been a time in history when free lessons on almost every aspect of guitar have been readily available to almost anyone- now they are, via YouTube, and UbiSoft would have you believe this is the golden ticket to learn even faster.

It has great songs and the idea is amazing however implementation falls slightly short
Pretty fun, takes a bit to get used to, cool Idea excited to keep learning
I see this game as beginner friendly, as well as, for more advanced players
I highly recommend this game to anybody who liked the idea of Guitar Hero, but would rather invest the time in learning a real instrument than how to use a game controller.

But this is definitely good to mix it up, get some variety and play along with your favorite songs.
However, not many songs come with it and the DLC is overpriced.
Songs on easy are way too easy, some songs on pro are just ridiculous
Selecting these missing songs prompts the user to re-purchase the song on the XBox One. 2 weeks after the release, some of the titles were transferred over, but appear to have been mapped incorrectly, so some of the songs from DLC packs are available to download, while most of it is not.
Great game, very innovative, and yes you can actually learn to play guitar, only problem is the lack of really good songs.
Some of the latency issues you have to play with settings on the PC are gone on the Xbox One
But, because of the latency issues, the game is only four stars.
From my own personal experience, I can attest to purchasing the game only to experience the same latency issues others have complained about

As for the guitarist who is just beginning, the lag issues could be very destructive as far getting your timing or rhythm down
As for the lag issue that others comment on: I used a fiber optic cable for sound, wired to my Onkyo reciever and an HDMI for the video and haven't seen any lag at all.
If they made the software compatible with any guitar midi signal they'd allow their customers to upgrade on the cable losing the lag issues

I would give this 5 stars but with the audio lag issue it is hard to do so, but

The only real problem is that you are moreso learning specific songs that you'd probably be able to commit to memory easily, but you won't gain much knowledge of the musical theory associated and you won't really learn to read music, so beyond the specific songs it teaches you (there are a decent amount and you can buy other songs as DLC as with Rock Band

I've had this problem as well, but I think it is more my
This is a very frustrating problem lots of other users have as well as this very problem is a very frequent complaint in Rocksmith online forums I found when Googling the error message.
I also keep my tv set to game mode).Once the sluggish menus, note detection issues, and other hangs/lag are all fixed, this will be a great title for new users.
It's lasting several minutes, and often causes menus to be unresponsive during the enumeration.

The menus are slow, and loading the store can take several minutes.

On top of that, there have been absolutely no updates to the missing 360 dlc purchases.
As others have mentioned, Xbox One version is glitchy (freezes, lags, crashes), can't download previously purchased DLC (for the most part) and, as of the writing of this review, the promised free Hendrix DLC is not available (at all for Xbox One).
The most pressing issue is the enumerating DLC time that seems to get worse the more DLC you own.
