My husbands set of harmonica came up missing and I thought this would be a great gift for him.
This would make a great gift for someone who is interested in expanding their skills.
From the first blow, you can tell that they are a good gift for a 8 year old who would be happy to make any sound and not someone looking to learn the instrument.
In any case, for not a huge investment, this set would make a fine gift for a kid who aspires to learn to play the harmonica
The harmonicas themselves are about 70% as loud as high end harmonicas, a bit harder to blow, and the black casing of each harmonica is soft plastic
The case is nice but not as plush as it appears with the slots for the harmonicas being a bit rigid
The plastic DOES stink a bit and if you are sensitive to such things, it may bother you
so it's a bit more than this set but trust me, if you are serious about playing the harmonica beyond just playing a few chords, you need a
Not only did this set provide me with that, but it is also certainly good enough for now...while the $30 each blues harps have a clearer sound and are a bit easier to bend notes, this $20 set is a great deal!
Some of them will correct themselves as you play them more, but overall, do not waste your money on buying these if you intend to play them
So today I got my harps (except the A Delta Frost which was on backorder
So I started playing on a Bushman Delta Frost in the key of C. (great harp
They make lovely gifts for me to give,a gift that keeps on giving, as well as they are a great entry level harmonica with seven different keys to choose from
I picked the Delta Frost by Bushman but there are other good ones like the Lee Oskar, Hohner Special 20, Hohner Marine Band or Hohner Golden Melody
The harps have a strong plasticy smell this might be from the case rather than the harmonicas as my two Special 20's have the same smell now from being in the same case
They have failed, plus they have a very nasty smell and taste to them that I dont
I really dont know or have any proof)My problem is the smell and taste in my mouth after one inhale
Some other reviewers commented on the foul, plastic-y taste and smell
They also have a terrible plastic/chemical taste and smell
Some are not so good, with an occasional dead reed and/or a problem where the player has to work hard to get a good sound out of it
The reeds aren't all quite on pitch, and they aren't for hard playing, but again, good for the price.
The reeds are a little stiff when they arrive, which is actually a sign of good quality
the covers are put over the read plated and serve several functions including amplifying the sound, creating a tight seal across the harmonica to conserve your breath, and protecting the reeds
the cheap reeds it has sound worse then a plastic toy harmonica
As stated in other reviews expect one or more not to work (too much escaping air)
Three out of Seven worked, but the other Three had several bad reads Which I could possibly fix if I were to take them apart, however they leak so much air anyway, I found no practical use in doing that
They're completely made of plastic, the holes are small, the high notes require more air to get any sound out of them, and overall sounds bland
Terrible sound, leaks air everywhere, weighs about half as much as the nearly as cheap $8.00 Chinese made Blues Band or the Old Standby
They take too much air to play, lose notes, and sound cheap
Some holes don't play well at all without more air and even then, they don't bend
They are actually harder to play than better quality harps because of the plastic parts that flex too much, and the loose reeds and air holes that require more air than, say, a Marine Band, or Big River harp
Upper 2 and Lower 2 holes blow and draw stiffer than the rest
These have plastic combs, so I couldn't soak them to try and fix the troublesome holes, like you can with wooden combs
When blowing into the number “6” hole, (which I believe is supposed to play the “D” note,
This smell permitted the harmonicas and left a bad taste in the mouth when you played them
They also have a terrible plastic/chemical taste and smell
I tried washing them with water and soap, but the taste is still there, strong as ever
The main problem I have with these harmonicas is that they leave a bitter strong taste in your mouth.
They make lovely gifts for me to give,a gift that keeps on giving, as well as they are a great entry level harmonica with seven different keys to choose from
Not all are working 2 of them have dead spots and one is tuned way off
Several of them let out horrible high pitch trills when trying to bend them and most of the others had dead spots in the high and low notes
I found the dead spots and leaking air issues so many others posted about
