So this is not really a totally portable keyboard but rather a powerful MIDI controller for in studio work, or on the road as a live performance machine using Ableton 9 Live Lite with a plugged in computer/laptop etc
I'd say for this budget this is the best MIDI keyboard under $200 that you can buy
For this price, a very nice Midi Controller - Allows a budding artist to create full compositions - Quality build.
I felt like I was ready to make a reasonably informed decision about what might be my best first midi hardware gear purchase.
As somebody with a bunch of synths (Korg Triton, Ultranova, Juno-106, SH-101, DX-7) and an Akai APC40, I've been looking for a solid midi controller that incorporated Ableton control with a quality playing keyboard
They said that Studio One (and other DAWs) do have the capability of lighting up the midi pads, but that it takes significant back-end work to set up - enough that they don't believe it's worth the effort
It's worth noting that the In-Control features only work with Ableton 9.2 and above.
The mod wheel and knobs are pleasantly fluid and all the controls are well laid outIt works great with Live, Logic and FL Studio
Pros-RGB pads work great for sequencing AbletonSliders/Knobs/Buttons/Wheels are sensitive and work wellinterfaces with Ableton excellently overallusb bus powerednice aesthetic and lightweightCons-poor
Amazing small USB midi control keyboard to work with Ableton (which lite version You get with purchase of this product) and other DAWs
I am excited about the expanded capabilities Ableton provides and it is just the right size in the 49 if you want to use it in your studio on top of your desk as a controller
It is a great size for him to have on the table with his laptop
Works great with Ableton, keys are a good size and feel, drum pads are good, I highly recommend!
The size and quality of this keyboard is unreal for its cost
Works great with Ableton, keys are a good size and feel, drum pads are good, I highly recommend!
I have read on Apples site in reviews where many complain it doesn't work but must have enough power to run the iPad and keyboard.
Do note that if you are running on an UNPOWERED or a lower power USB hub you may not have enough power to power this keyboard depending on the power available from your computer, other connected USB devices and their power draw, and other factors
Works great, even when powered by USB only.

If Novation's software improves, and especially if there's a new generation out, I'll consider Novation in my search
I don't have experience with Live, but absolutely love the Novation V-Station & Bass Station VSTs
I attribute this to the other not so great thing Novation did: they ship this thing in the thinnest cheapest box I've seen for a keyboard, AND, Amazon didn't place it in a separate shipping box
I have read about how great Novation's customer support is and how many people with this problem can get a free replacement from
No midi tru or midi out puts buy other than that its great as a
The RGB pads are velocity sensitive which works really well for recording drum sections
Keys are nice, have great velocity response and no stuck which I like
I have to press the keys very hard (harder than I'd ever need to press on any real piano or comparable MIDI controller) to get a decently mid-loud velocity value (like around 90/127)
It looks like the build quality of my particular unit was unusually poor, and that the firmware breaking velocity sensing of the keys is something Novation would definitely have corrected or replaced
This keyboard you really have to slam the keys to hit the top velocity (there are settings but haven't messed with them yet)
Novation/Focusrite make exceptional products at a great price
This keyboard is just awesome, great price for a great deal, it has a lot of different functions and many of the faders and knobs already know what to
Not worth the price at all if the pads are important to you.
The build quality is great and the price is fair, highly recommend this keyboard.
In summary, it seems that, as a beginning controller for a novice keyboardist and digital musician/producer, The Launchkey 49 provides a completely adequate keyboard and control surface for a very reasonable price.
The keys are velocity-sensitive with a lot of degrees of sensitivity present
Its a good keyboard however I just discovered a faulty key that dissent
Top C key is warped and does not sit level with other keys.
I was worried that 49 keys would not be enough but is seems like the perfect compromise between size and range
Cheap" is the most appropriate word to describe it - it just feels like cheap plastic, and it is, but more notably the keys the pots and sliders -- all very cheap and
a great product, i would recommend it without hesitation.
Great product, comes with amazing software and it is very sturdy
I'm okay with a cheap product if it delivers, and I purchased the Launchkey to replace a 10 year old synthesizer I was only using as a MIDI controller
Good product works nice easy to use and worth the moneyOne thing the keyboard velocity might varies (still figuring it out) on the software you use but overall great product

The pads actually even feel pretty decent; stiff but responsive
The key's and pads do take some breaking in, to get used to/ (Mostly just the pads though, they are ridiculously hard to press all the way in, but they again I would rather have
Not worth the price at all if the pads are important to you.
However they are terrible as velocity sensitive pads and if used for midi will register anything below a seismic finger jab only 50% of the time
These are worse pads than the first generation of Korg nano-pads, which were abysmal
