I am an amateur, hobbyist nature photographer and I have been looking for a macro lens with a reasonable price tag (as a grad student I cannot afford the $700-1500+ lenses)
I find myself using this lens on every shoot…the color and clarity is superb, and the price was awesome...
For the price point and macro versatility with minimal distance needed to focus, this lens is a rockstar!
Thank you Amazon.com for having this great product available at a fair price.
I really love this lens as I find it to be versatile enough and very sharp at a good price
First macro lens I've owned, I've took some great photos with it
The lens came in good time and is well made and is very sharp, takes great micro photos of bugs, flowers and land scapes and people on my Nikon D3200.Update: after a year and 8000 plus photo's the lens is failing, making a grinding noise when auto focusing and does not want to auto focus, right, after hundreds of photo's and 2 different Nikon D3200 cameras, on tripod and hand held can no longer get clear images in macro mode with lens set on auto, manual focus seems to work ok so far
Also it's very good with portraits, takes a very SHARP photos and a 2.8 aperture produce a shallow depth of field great for portraits (some lense distortion happens when you get too close to the
I got some really nice pics!I will be posting a few photos later on once I get outside (and the rain stops) so everyone can see how amazing the photos can be even as an amateur like me
But how many times have you "seen" that fabulous photo within your photo?
Used in on Nikon 7100 and 5600 ; great image quality / enthusiast’s dream
I think the build quality and everything else is great.
You can get better quality but you're going to have to pay for it.
(what's the point of 1.8 if you can't use it?)- lens hood is way too small- build quality is plasticky (but this applies to 40mm micro as well)Here are the pros of the 40mm
I love the picture quality but the focus ring is way too stiff
The lens is a Micro Lens, but can be used as a walk about lens that exhibits great results.
It may very well be a low frequency defect due to machining errors on the particular injection mold used for this hood, but the result is a surprising quality failure.
So far I have used this lense with no complaints and great results
I'm not entirely sure what makes this lens special for this use-case, but I won't complain, the results look great.
Great results from landscape, scenic, close up and macro shots
I could take advantage of the D7000 being able to use this cheaper non-G lens
This is a great intro to macro lens especially for the price, it gets you get super close to your subject and produces razor sharp images wether you're a seasoned pro or the novice photographer
I was on a budget so this fit my needs and can produce some super sharp images.

The images are sharp from edge to edge and in the corners.
Awesome lense for macro or portrait photography definitely a great purchase.
In some ways I find the manual focus a little to light for my taste, but no lenses is perfect
I have all the great Nikon trinity glass 14-24, 24-70, 70-200mm and other great Nikon pro lenses
I decided on this one, after extensive research, over one of the more expensive macro lenses because it made more sense for me to test the waters before going all out and buying an expensive macro lens
I finally found a great Micro Lense that I can take close ups up to 2 cm away
PRICE!!Cons:-No VR - may need to crank up ISO especially for handheld macro such as flowers, bugs, etc (or get creative with a tripod, rest the camera on a rock, etc)-40mm and need to be close to subject for 1:1 macro, can cause issues with blocking sunlight (depending on the angle you're shooting from) or scaring away the more skittish insects (butterflies); still, if you're sneaky enough and strategic with lighting it can produce great macro imagesI got this for macro (105mm too expensive for me) but the first time I used it was to photograph waterfalls
I did not find the earlier release suitable because I am not into close-up macrophotography shooting bugs and butterflies which the Micro Nikkor DX 85
I sometimes use this lens to take a picture of a clump of flowers in the backyard, then crop in and isolate a butterfly
I might just sell it and not buy anything similar until I feel the need for an expensive f/1.4 lens
