Had a pair of Sennheiser HD 439s and enjoyed them quite a bit.

The 598 Cs has a bit more bass emphasis, but not excessive like other brands of headphones

I have another open back design of Sennheisers and I am able to turn up the volume on those pair without disrupting people around me with my music

You can travel with them and not annoy the people sitting next to you, but a microphone will still pick up whatever comes through them at normal levels.

However, most people do prefer a "closed" sound blocking design, and thus the 598CS was introduced
