I wouldn't recommend this product if you own a projector that only has one HDMI and no Optics port for sound
and I have to say nvidia took a great product and made it even better
I have been using this product for some time now , works great
It's not like the replacements are cheap (or even available, for that matter).I cannot recommend this product until they resolve the issues with the controller.
More accurately, nvidia has continuously been making a great product

After one month of using I have noticed that my Nvidia Shield TV (2017) has started to overheat (up to 70 C), the interface started to stutter, video playback started to lag and the game controller started to press its keys by itself
You also get an improved Bluetooth controller and a free remote now too
Android games are great, fast, clear, and the controller is comfortable
The processing speed is phenomenally and the interface is excellent
Apps run smoothly and open quicker and the interface is nice
Don't get me wrong, the interface of the Shield TV is decent, but it just doesn't offer that much over the interfaces of smart TVs or even last generation game consoles
half of that is due to the fact that the remote is just terrible at responding to input and half is the crazy interface Nvidia dreamed up

So if you're going to game with one controller, would recommend using Moonlight app on the shield tv, as it's much smoother than nvidia app
The only issue I'm having is, i'm getting some serious remote lag
It consistantly lags after pressing the buttons and will only work as it should if you are no more than three feet away from the Shield TV, and that is even "iffy".
Only gripe I can indicate is occasionally there is lag from the remote control, but there are firmware updates coming out all the time.
Just bought the 2017 edition of the shield TV.The remote control has crazy intermittent lag, where commands aren't responded to for over 15-50 seconds
Go on manufacturer site and read their forum, many users are experiencing this problem and they are still selling this unit with this defect.

Like some users have said, the remote doesn't always wake up
: I feel that the omission of an IR sensor and MICRO SD slot on the base version of the SHIELD to be a poor decision

So the device is now unusable and all of the instructions to try to recover it don't work on this version of the device because of the insane decision to remove its only button
Considering the internal specifications are going to be super powerful for years to come, I don't think you'll regret your decision to try it out!
The price of Shield is high to begin with but to eliminate IR control just seems like a poor decision
