It was able to get the nice classic gilmouresc tones, the great alternative jack white kind of tone, and the great punky grunge tones from mudhoney and the smashing pumpkins
The 1/8" jack adapter is available for the Visual Sound One Spot, which I use, so it's not really a huge deal for me, but be aware that you're going to have to get an adapter (5 bucks or so) or use batteries, which I hate doing

this pedal produces very good sustain, but has really bad attack.
I agree with other reviewers in that it will give you perfect tone for white stripes, and sustain that is necessary for solos from Gilmour (note that this is only one of many pedals used by gilmour, so this alone will not provide the floyd sound).
my brother's, where we rehearsal and I have my marshall amp, and it was a totally different story; the sound is great, huge sustain and a big low end, you have clarity within
The Big Muff has an amazing tone and sustain, it's the pedal I've been wanting for
Great sustain, tone and distortion, better than anything digital
I purchased one over 20 years ago and sent it back immediately, but now I really like this thing and keeping it my two Guitar hero's used this thing Jimi Hendrix and Ernie Isley

If you are trying to sound just like some classic rock dude this may or may not work for you...
If you want to also cover other classic rock, you're gonna need at least one more overdrive/distortion effect.

You can sound close to a Hendrix tone, Jack White, and anything for classic rock 60's 70's
As I said, it does one thing very well, but its range even with classic rock is quite limited.
As far as modern versions of the Muff, I think this one is the best

Back when I purchased this pedal I'd read that this version of the pedal was redesigned by Fran Blanche (from Frantone pedals) back when she worked for EH.
You pretty much get the one sound with a Big Muff, which I'd describe as a weaker version of the former
Great pedal, although I prefer the black russian version over the newer nyc models.
