It's that transparent overdrive boost/crunch you'd expect from the 808 type pedals, and less muddy than a TS9.I did a shootout with the Mini, my EHX East River, and a Joyo Vintage Drive (a clone of the Maxon OD808, or Ibanez TS808)
They just seemed like crappy distortion or boost pedals that did neither job very well
Just a little boost with the right EQ setting does wonders.

When combined with a modest amount of amp overdrive (a Marshall half-stack), it's an awesome growling overdrive tone

But that was because I only owned solid-state modeling amps
Only tried it as a basic overdrive over a clean amp and it sounds pretty great, although there is a slight buzz that I wasn't expecting.
I thought just plugging into a good amp was enough, and pedals were for doing weird things
