Asus Wireless AC3100 Gigabit Router (RT-AC3100)
Asus RT-AC3100 Dual-Band wireless-ac3100 router. Takes your wireless network to the NEXT level. The latest nitro am technology boosts the Wi-Fi speeds to everyone and everything on your busy network. With the widest-ever range, lightning-fast USB and...
I wouldn't say that setup was easy or simple for my network needs, but if you don't require any special networked devices, and you probably don't, then you shouldn't have any problems setting this router up on your own
The setup was easy the only hiccup was the first one I got died after two days
Easy setup and gives a good strong single and can easily handle being connected to multiple devices.
Excellent router, easy setup, outstanding range (in a 1900 square foot house).
Setup was a breeze, connection was great..for about 3 days
Since Android portable devices and streaming video boxes like Fire TV may have unintentional (or intentional) security flaws or snooping behavior, it's best to put them on guest networks where they aren't allowed to access your main network
Both my previous router (Netgear AC1900 (R7000)) and the router that I replaced the ASUS router with (Linksys AC5400 (EA9500) work fine with all of the smart home devices
I saw no problems with wireless connections to our laptop or tablets, so I don't know what was the issue with the router and smart home devices
Highly recommend if you have a smart TV and other devices.

I bought the 87U on a Best Buy sale (my bad for not properly researching, what a PIA router that was with Quantenna). But I own a ZenBook and LOVE IT

I bought this from Best Buy, and let me tell you right off the bat:it's the same internal guts as the AC88u, with the removal of the Realtek switch that allows the AC88u to have 8 LAN ports, whereas this cheaper variant has only 4 LAN ports
Absolutely rock solid router, I didn't need the 8 ethernet ports so this was a better value at Best Buy for $20 cheaper.
So about 12 hours back on the day after Christmas I decided to drive down to the local Best Buy and get one of these
only negative is the price, but you really do get what you pay for.
Pros: fast wireless, great wireless range, excellent parental controls, Gigabit lan ports, support for usb harddisk and usb sticks for file sharing, easy to use web interface (even my wife can use it)Cons: Price: $275.00.

After the reboot, the parental controls worked like a charm.
Open DNS extends the already great parental controls built into the ASUS router.
Frustrated that this $300 dollar router with these great parental control options had failed me, I went to the ASUS support site and found that there was an updated firmware.
The Linksys was very fast, wireless range was great, but the parental controls were very weak.
Tried everything: new printer firmware, new router firmware, new Mac drivers, and hours with ASUS and printer tech support.
Repeated attempts to deal with their "tech support" results in every-increasing levels of frustration, as each time they just transfer the question to a different "support person" who then repeats the moronic, inapplicabe, response of the prior support person.
For a computer/networking company, their tech support is laughably pathetic

After several hours on the phone with Asus tech support they could not identify why both the guest network and the 2.4 Ghz network would broadcast intermittently.
I went back to my Gryphon Router, which has superior range, 4 cores and is a bit more stable

I'm now stuck with the crappy Pace router and terrible wireless range.
Excellent router, easy setup, outstanding range (in a 1900 square foot house).
The Linksys was very fast, wireless range was great, but the parental controls were very weak.
Also, when they came back to my house to tidy up their installation, they saw the Asus and immediately told me that if I used my own equipment, they'd charge me for any service calls and they could not guarantee the quality of my service.
Well, apparently, my first two were duds as they had the very common issue of the Wifi signals constantly dropping.
