Well - didn’t give us the movie star quality we were hoping for even with a 4K tv and the appropriate dvd
Having a 4k TV I wanted a DVD player that supported that format, this one does nicely.
I have played DVD's, Bluerays and 4K disks in the unit and it works great
It did okay for actual 4K and Blu-Ray disks, but every single regular DVD we tried would cut out (like a micro-second pause, or the lips would stop syncing with the words) once or more every couple of minutes
It played perfectly on my old JVC region free DVD player
The processor on a good set will do the best job it can upscaling 1080p whether streamed directly or by a 4K stick(streaming via the stick, it’s faster than most TVs and apps
For playing blu ray and 4K discs this does an excellent job Picture and sound quality are excellent
The Sony UBP-X700 does a really spectacular job with its primary function - handling video and audio
Does a super job up-scaling non-4K content
Plays all sorts of media, 4K BlueRay, DVDs, CDs, MP3, SACD, etc., good job with streaming content, including some hi-res audio content
My TV is a 2018 smart tv, so don't need the other things.
I don't like depending on a smart TV for those, prefer to be a stick or player like this
n’t had any issues
Amazon does not accept returns (even for defective units) after a measly month and Sony is not interested, denying responsibility and blaming my TV, AV receiver and everything else not made by them
Really that would be the only reason to fork out $175 for the player if you already have a smart 4K UHD TV.
but this sony x700 dedicated 4k player is what you want for the right price.
Basic box design, small footprint, easy to set up, pretty nice remote, good set of apps, 4K streaming, up-converts non-4K quite well (including DVDs), non-wifi isn’t a problem, looks great on a Samsung 4K tv — all at a really good price
My biggest bugaboo with this player and why I won't give it 5 stars though it meets my needs at a good price is the lack of auto detect for Dolby Vision and the lack of a button to toggle on/off
Best price I could find, and I researched this thoroughly
I bet this will get done to near $100, but even at the current $200 price, I think it's worth it if you want the capabilities that this has that the less expensive models don't.
I do not recommend this model at all for these reasons
Researching it, it looks like this problem has been plaguing this model all year, and Sony either can't or can't be bothered to fix it
So far no freeze ups or other issues that have been prevalent in other players including Sony’s prior model
The TV, as well I as the X700, have Amazon Prime app where I can play the same UHD material to compare.
I see the negative reviews and am unable to see a certain pattern , but as some have suggested I suspect some of the bad experiences may be due to the cabling or internet connection
I tried to ignore the 15% of negative reviews on Amazon and give Sony a shot
I ignored the bad reviews of this player about the freezing issue because there wasn’t that many negative comments.

Just let this be a dumb box that does a great job playing UHD discs.
This does not work.
The X700 does not support DVD-Audio
Also it does not work AT ALL with Apple products
sometimes upscaling does too good of a job, and you may want to know that you have the option for the resolution without having to rebuild your library
Recent movies produced in 4K, like The Dark Tower, also look great
For us Vine reviewers, Sony tossed in two Ultra 4K Blue-ray discs (The Dark Tower" and "Spider-Man Homecoming."
While it came with Two 4K Ultra HD disc sets of"Spiderman Homecoming" and "The Dark Tower" I say disc sets because there are two discs for each movie a 4KUHD. and a Blu-Ray
n’t available and maybe 5 old ones that I’ll spend the 10 dollars
