Called tech support and they worked on it for about an hour.

Even with some very knowledgable network engineers involved and with Epson tech support on the phone for hours, we were unable to get the scanner to work via WiFi

I spoke to tech support, they offered no solution nor do they see this as a problem

Then try and get tech support or customer service, forget it!

This is a very handy machine, especially for professional using scanning papers or maybe insurance documentation.

I originally had an EPSON all in one, it was a great little machine, worked well.

The only negative we have found is that the machine seems to prefer scanning paper only.

I liked the ability to communicate with the printer via USB cable on my Linux machine while also being able to use it via wi-fi in my Virtual Box windows session.

The wireless connectivity of the scanner is a big plus, and the ability of the scanner to serve as its own access point, without being connected to a Wi-Fi router or integrated into a network, is very useful

The wireless feature was not an issue like many brands can be, and it does not pull multiple pages by mistake like I have found happens in the past with other brand/models.

A really nice feature would be the ability to append an existing file, but that would push the price up even more

Great advice, if only I had known that earlier!I have managed to get it to scan a few documents, but the wifi connection is completely unreliable and has only ever worked at all on a few occasions

Fast duplex scanning to all standard formats (png, jeg, pdf etc) works great, speedy and quiet.

I'm happy to report that the automatic size detection feature of the software works well, correctly switching between legal and letter-sized pages; however, watch the output tray, sometimes it can cause pages to curl and fall of when you do

The device works nicely as advertised, but in Epson Scan2 there are no "send to" or "scan to" options other than local drives.

The ES-500W is a full featured and very capable personal and business document scanner and works well for everything from receipts to reports to books and periodicals

Another issue that the scanner had with document handling is that it can't handle documents with thicker tape or stickers on them them; it thinks that it is being fed two documents and refuses to scan those pages

The feeder works nicely with receipts and light weight originals, as well as regular documents

Set up wasn't to bad, machine scanned quickly but the quality of the scan was terrible.

One thing I did like is that it has dual page scanning (in case someone brings a double sided document).

Software was really quick and easy to understand and this damn thing is changing my life.

It seems like it would be straight up, but it is far from it, and this is from a guy that has worked in IT all his life trying to keep things easy

Only limitation other than maximum 8-1/2" wide paper size is that it won't feed old polaroid-type pictures and won't feed/scan things like Christmas cards with a picture affixed or similar multi-layer items.

The quality is only standard, and your unable to print at a higher quality like you were able to on previous editions

So, in sum, the software never worked, the scanner developed hardware problems within a month, and Epson's customer "support" system appears to be designed for the sole purpose of making customers' lives so thoroughly miserable that they will give up in disgust and write off the loss rather than suffer through the nine hells of trying to get Epson to assume any responsibility for their shoddy products.

Great product but the software interface can be a little better

This time, they did offer to replace their defective product, but only if I agreed to let them charge my credit card the purchase price of a new printer as collateral against the possibility of my not returning the defective scanner

That scanner was an absolute dream, and after we had to give it back, we waited a while, and then finally decided to purchase this Epson ES500 because the newer Fujitsu IX1500 had so many negative reviews

The negative reviews I've read were about people who wanted wireless scanning into their phones or need a scanner to be more compatible with other programs.
