The whole use your phone as a remote is not even possible because in order to do that the app needs to connect to the hub and no matter what I do the app fails to find the hub
You can control the box with the included remote or your smart phone
The phone is generally much easier so start with it, but it lacks some more detailed features so you will want to also have the computer version handy
Also nice for times when we lose a remote (I don't have as much problems losing my phone).
Its pretty bad when an app breaks your 700 dollar phone
For example, our home does not have a central air conditioning system, instead, we rely on a large window A/C unit to cool the house down
n’t scroll right or left, but instead press a corresponding number such as #3 for HDMI 3 or #6 for Component cable input
No backlit buttons, hub connectivity issues, buttons all felt the same.
, app interface is a little bland, and some spotty connectivity issues
To resolve the connectivity issue, find the MAC ID of the device, go into your router, assign a static IP to that MAC address, then reboot the Harmony Hub (just unplug it for 2 mins).
I mention it because of how Harmony treats "smart home" devices
However, I believe it can also be used to control "smart home" devices, and also works with Alexa
Wow Such an amazing device that works will all my current media devices and Amazon Alexa Echo
Pairing is really easy, just find your device's model number and put it into the app either on a computer or android/ios device
This device solves my number one problem with remote controls in general: Having to hold the controller in the right position to the IR transmitter can be received by all the devices, and hold it there until the programmed sequence is completed
and it makes me sick to have been a victim of these horrible practices and blatant attempt to literally steal customers money.
Buy at your own peril, I'm going to request American Express get in involved and perhaps do a warranty claim on this piss poor attempt at "customer service".Hi Kenny,I understand your frustration regarding this issue with your Harmony Smart Control
The customization is the real strength, the little remote may look unassuming, but you can control what nearly every button on it does and configure it to work as you want it to
An attempt to change settings will generally fail and crash the app about 50% of the time
I expect that things will continue to work as they do now and I won't need any IR repeaters to make it happen
The customization is the real strength, the little remote may look unassuming, but you can control what nearly every button on it does and configure it to work as you want it to
the remote feels high quality and comfortable in your hand and because it uses RF with the plug you do not have to worry about making sure it is pointed directly at the TV with no objects interfering as you do with IR
I expect that things will continue to work as they do now and I won't need any IR repeaters to make it happen
but this remote setup is just an annoying waste of my time.
An important thing to mention is that the more devices you have and how they work together will largely affect how complex the setup ends up being, as well as if you are tech savvy or not
The buttons are labeled intuitively and there are several that you can program to work as you want them to.
One other major design flaw I found was that there were no basic buttons on the remote to change the selected input on the tv
My understanding is that this feature allows you to add the names to your favorite channels for both hot buttons on the remote/virtual remote as well as for voice usage
The fundamental design flaw is that the remote can never be aware of the power status of devices, it can only emit IR blasts
The customization is the real strength, the little remote may look unassuming, but you can control what nearly every button on it does and configure it to work as you want it to
Maximum number of components is 8 - while most people shouldn't run into an issue here, it would be nice to support a few more devices, as this limit seems arbitrary in order to make the "Ultimate" look more attractive with 15 components.
But the number of activities is limited, at least with our device, to 6
n’t scroll right or left, but instead press a corresponding number such as #3 for HDMI 3 or #6 for Component cable input
I've owned several Harmony remotes over the years, but this was the easiest and fastest I've set-up so far
The arbitrary limit of 8 devices is annoying, and seems like a cash grab bug intentionally placed by LG
I expect that things will continue to work as they do now and I won't need any IR repeaters to make it happen
One downfall of the remote itself is the lack of a specific page up/down button
Has potential, the real problem is the support (or lack there of) that Harmony provides
On this remote as well as on every harmony remote that works with the smart hub (at the time of this review) fast forward shares a button with the skip forward.
The only oversight I found was the lack of an available second Simple Remote
Hardware manufacturers like Logitech are just constitutionally unable to produce decent software themselves and are unwilling to farm out the work to someone competent
The software, on the other hand, is cumbersome, to say the least
works through a wall, programed ok though you need modern computer software to work it
The software on the SmartPhone still needs some work - for example, when controlling devices you can't set up a custom screen and commands are listed in a random order - not very useful
doesn't like Googleplay (which is where you have to go to get the software to make it work and prevent it from being a paper weight - expensive for a paper weight too)
It constantly disconnects even though it is 10 feet from my router which happens to be able to support 50+ devices and a 700 mbps connection
Every single other device in that room connects fine without issue (including a Vizio Smart TV, Roku Ultra, PS4, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Steam Link, Amazon Alexa, and a TP-Link Smart Bulb), but when the Harmony Hub is directly connected to my router, it is unable to hold a stable connection, constantly either dropping inputs or requiring a power cycle to reconnect to the WiFi
All of these positives aside, this remote very frequently looses connection to the hub
The app regularly seems to loose connection with the Hub, and the reconnect time is annoying
And the fourth has been absolute hell because it won't recognize the correct I outs for a vizio TV.

You HAVE to set it to a static IP address or you will never be able to connect with your smart phone.
Then tell your smart phone app what the static IP address is and, viola, it works every time you try and connect
To resolve this phone app connectivity issue, find the MAC ID of the Harmony hub, go into your router, assign a static IP to that MAC address, then reboot the Harmony Hub (just unplug it for 2 mins)
Then tell your smart phone app what the static IP address is and, hopefully, the app will connect quickly every time from then on
The R/C was very easy to configure by adding the specific components by brand and model
so no line of sight needed-Can use your phone to power operate the devices from anywhere in the house (on the wifi network), this is nice if you forget to shut things off or want to warm up the room ahead of time
Most people might not need it, idk, but my room is always dark, and this doesn't work well
So I had to operate in the dark room and it sucks as it does not have light to see the keys and also keyboard
No blasters needed, it bounces the signal off the walls/ceiling of our *large* great room, I guess.
First off, the more they "dumb" devices down to work for "dumb" people
No more issues with how you hold the remote, people walking in front of you, or other kinds of interference.
I'm sure there are some outlier devices that it doesn't work perfectly with, but overall, it works, and I think the issues are the people setting up and using this remote.
I am certain that other people were very happy with their devices given the configurations for their specific situations, but in my case with the devices above, I can only say, "Wow, that was awful
I'm glad so many people like this product but, for me, the setup was torturous and the system did not live up to the hype
After entering in the exact model number I still needed to manually program it.
You just type in the manufacturer and the model number and it does almost everything else
If you input a model number that it does not know about, then you can use the existing remote for that device to program the hub.
The trouble I was having was related to the model number I was using for my TiVo Roamio.
