Synology Router (RT1900ac) - 2024 report by Whydis
Synology Router (RT1900ac)
Designed for homes and offices, Synology Router RT1900ac broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz spectrums for combined data transfer speeds of up to 1900Mbps. Enjoy robust coverage with Beamforming and optimized multi-user performance, and fine-tune network...
So I bought the new RT2600AC, everything works right out of the box and with VPN Plus running, I still get over 900 Mbps download speed from my fiber ISP, the old router's hardware will not fully support new apps developed for the router, so don't waste your money on this one, get the new one
Don't waste your money on this
Don't waste your money!

So if you are in market for a good router with good software and good price buy it you will not retrun it !!!
That said, I'll address my kind with this review ... so please disregard this review if things like NAS, VPN, or logs are outside of your current skill set (unless you'd like to learn - this device is at a great price point for students).VPN: Setup is simple, DDNS with NOIP was painless
The price was great for all the features and like that matte black case since I'm not fond of shiny fingerprint magnets.
Not worth the price if you need a router only
Excellent control interfaceCutting edge technology & Rock solid performance, at an extremely competitive price
The router works as advertised and supports all of my devices very well.
The VPN server is broke as of the latest software release
I really wanted to keep it and turned off the wireless to use it as a router on another segment but the switch performance wasn't as good as or better than what I already

On a side note, I have and have had several Synology NASes that I love/loved.
GUI is completely different from the old “dlink/tplink/wrt54g” static interface
Synology has a good reputation of updating and patching their storage products based on OSS and figured I'd give them a shot.
, websites just dont work you know all the weird issues you have with crappy consumer modems but cant replicate easy but just know there is some weird issue that your net is playing up.4GB flash RAM so the modem updates can actually be useful and synology can release awesome features in the applicaitonI love the application inspection where you can actually see what application or modem is downloading what which is good for shared houses alot of devices you can find out who is hogging internetSo if you are looking for new router i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this
Then the 2.4G instability issues started this summer.
The portal to oversee the configuration is easy to use and the speeds are fine (using another, simpler router, I was pulling about 50-100Mbps faster speeds) but the reliability is sometimes spotty
very inconsistent speed often dropping to 10
I had to replace that modem because the QoS would slow down my speeds way too much (couldn’t get over 100mbps).
However, I have Google Fiber and noticed recently that the speeds were no longer as good as they used to be.
I normally cant ever be bothered to write review for products but Synology have made a awesome product first time around so other manufactures take noteHere are things i have noticedWireless reception is good if not a little bit beter than my ASUS RT N56U i replaced it with
Even if I didn't have a DS, I would still love this product!
This product is amazing would be nice if it was faster but new version coming out soon!
I would not recommend this product to anyone until these issues are sorted out.
As I explain to people: In my opinion, it's not if a product has a problem that determines whether a company is good or bad, but how the company responds to the problem that distinguishes a company.
I spent couple of weeks with tech support, nothing got resolved.
Tech support decent, but not amazing... wanted me to try a bunch of troubleshooting steps.
I called tech support and they told he they had some problems with their wireless transmitter
There need to be a tech support line to communicate with a specialist
The "tech support" offered by Synology is shameful and they have done nothing to address the issue (they just keep telling me to turn off the wifi and turn it back on)
So if you are in market for a good router with good software and good price buy it you will not retrun it !!!
The VPN server is broke as of the latest software release
Seems like it would be a great router, nice features, but terrible hardware/software QC.
The hardware specs are good but the software is not ready for the prime time
I really wanted to keep it and turned off the wireless to use it as a router on another segment but the switch performance wasn't as good as or better than what I already
In sending a request to Synology support, I was told to reset the configuration manually and then reconnect with a wired connection to redo the base configuration settings from scratch
Bought this based on the Synology support philosophy and do not regret it.
GUI is completely different from the old “dlink/tplink/wrt54g” static interface
So I got an email back from Synology support after I told them the new RT2600AC doesn't have performance issue with VPN Plus server installed, so they told me: "since this seems to be working for you now, I will go ahead and close this ticket for the time being", meaning, always buy another new router even if the new app developed for your old router doesn't work well, your problem will be resolved.
The nice thing is Synology support has been very quick to respond to support requests and have been actively debugging the one issue I reported.
The VPN server is broke as of the latest software release
After a day of making all the config changes and chasing down the issues, I have purchased an Asus RT-AC68U. Not the latest router but great range and all the feature actually work!
I subtracted a star because the 5Ghz range isn't so great.
Brilliant! The wireless range is decent, but not awesome
As others have mentioned, I wanted to love this router too but can't due to its relatively poor range, reliability, and signal strength compared to the Apple Airport Timecapsule I intended to replace; verified with the Wi-Fi Explorer app from the app store.
Surprised to see Linksys and Asus have connectivity issues with HP laptops via wifi, and see Asus 5GHz simply drop off
I could be sitting right in front of it and still experience connectivity issues
In order to resolve the Wifi connectivity issue, I had to reboot my router almost on a daily bases to resolve my issue
It doesn't play very nice with Comcast's IPv6, I have only had one connectivity issue, it required rebooting the router to fix it, I systematically tried other options prior to rebooting the router but that fixed the problem

Top Recommendation for connectivity issue in
Routers
I own several of this company's servers as well and the newest one I bought keeps corrupting data, even with new hard drives installed.
I couldn't get an external hard drive to connect to it and couldn't get the VPN client to work either.
As for NAS I have locked my self out by trying to set up the use of a hard drive on it and changed the main password by accident its a bit confusing with all its password security.
Can be paired with a USB Hard Drive to do many NAS things
