Leaving the router as a wifi 5 unit.(something to have in consideration if you want to get it as mesh system)As a single main router unit, nothing but good things for this small unit, specifically if your main thing is streaming and smart home devices
Split the home in half across 1 (2.4GHz) and 2 (5GHz) channels.
But with so many devices these days, that could really disturb a home founded on automation
With all the smart home devices we now have, echo dots/shows, phones tablets, laptops, game consoles and on and on
15-20 times a week the internet "drops", to the point none of my alexas comnect anymore, all my smart home devices lose their minds anf stop working.
It also shows which features will be disabled if you don't agree to letting TM crawl through your data.
I ensured the latest firmware was installed and changed multiple channels, changed multiple Freq's and even disabled multiple features to try and troubleshoot the issue.
The features are pretty nice too for this setup, it's so easy to configure any Asus router period
But it's a dual band, lacks VPN fusion feature and theoretical speed
Apparently Netgear was going to add those features in the future, not good enough on a high end router
No issues with the AT&T Gateway, and I've got good wireless speeds in all the spots in the house that used to have issues - around 250 Mbs with sub-20ms latency using the Ookla speediest app on my iPhone
App does not work if you have a space (" ") in there (this is the most secure type of password
The app is really good and overall was the one bright spot here.
You're device automatically disconnects and reconnects typically without you noticing, with some exceptions of apps/services that don't support roaming connections
Love this router, and the app and programs on how to use it is great.
However to ensure the two MESH devices have great connection and speed, they added the WiFi 6 chips in their routers so that the two can use the additional bandwidth provided
People say it hurts your wifi speeds and it's possible, but this didn't for us
So, if you enable the Mesh system in any way, at least on the most recent firmware, you cannot get the full ax speeds
I bought a Google Nest mesh router, and that has worked great, with faster WiFi speeds than the Asus.
I bought this router for the fast speed and the large ram; I don't have any wifi 6 devices yet
My 2G band speeds tanked after the update and doing the factory reset fixed it
Very good coverage in our house that’s 2400sq feet two story
Overall I'm very satisfied with how these improved the WiFi coverage in the house and how easy it was to set up as a replacement for AT&T's built-in wireless
I also live in a house that has metal framing which can act as a natural Faraday cage and destroy coverage
Has drastically improved coverage and speed in our home.
More powerful wifi signal than the previous rapture 5300
but I can't justify the purchase now because there are no weak signal areas in the house.
The signal is great in the farthest corner in the basement and upstairs
There are areas of my house where the signal is very poor
No issues with install or creating mesh with Asus AC5300 - now have a strong signal throughout the house (both floors & multiple walls) and backyard/pool area.
EDIT September 15th 2020: went back to dropping connections and having a weak range
The range is abysmal, likely because the antenna are garbage
AImesh is a sounds good on paper but is unstable, likely because of the poor range on these
(kill me now)Which is a shame because the Wi-Fi network is great the router speed is fantastic, and with my 2 old routers as nodes in a mesh the range is insane!
Was easy to set up, has amazing range and great features
Range is much better this way and connection is stable and fast.
Second:All wired and wireless devices randomly loose connection and you have to disconnect and reconnect to fix it
yr old wifi Netgear router in place instead and now the connection and wifi is solid but with slower speed
However to ensure the two MESH devices have great connection and speed, they added the WiFi 6 chips in their routers so that the two can use the additional bandwidth provided
Connection issues since it doesn’t have sticky connections.
even my hard wired pc has nothing but dropped connections
i seriously do not know what is up with these routers, when i plugged in my modem to it, it wouldnt pick up the internet connection at all i had to do the opposite of what the manual said an turn on the router first then the modem, finally got a connection got everything set up tried connecting to the 5g network nothing no connection when my pc tht is hard wired to
I'd say if you got the money to do it and you have good internet speed (wired
Keep them wired by ethernet and welcome to the 23 century!
The hard wired gaming speed was substantially better with this router
It sounds like everyone else has reliability issues, but I haven't had any connectivity reliability issues with the latest firmware
It sounds like everyone else has reliability issues, but I haven't had any connectivity reliability issues with the latest firmware
Not quite as blazing fast as I was hoping for, but it's a drastic improvement
I wanted to love this new ASUS RT-AX89X router so much...but after spending 9 hours triaging and root causing the reliability issues, spending 1 hour with my ISP to eliminate all other known DHCP and WAN issues, rebuilding my entire IoT network of 32+ connected devices... I've come to the conclusion that this router performs the way it looks...a stinky dead upside crab!
Despite the reliability issue it is the best WiFi I’ve had in terms of concurrent device support and whole house coverage(~4500sqft across three floors)
Big mistake, Netgear has a firmware issue that isn’t resolved that prevents DHCP from working correctly
Not quite as blazing fast as I was hoping for, but it's a drastic improvement
It lacks a
Tech support is really weak for both firmware issues and dual wan issues.
I am pretty sure this is a firmware issue and not a hardware issue as I just like many others, can reset the router and get them connected back again--only to have the issue crop back again

think you will need to setup a mesh for a home 1500sq-ft or less.-Easy to setup.-Excellent web interface ( mobile app for your smart phone is also excellent):-Small footprint.-WiFi 6.Cons:4 flimsy non-removable external antennas
Not happy at all with the amount of money this router cost to have cheap antenna on it... come on
The range is abysmal, likely because the antenna are garbage
n’t get anymore complaints about not connecting or dropped wireless
Sometimes the media server only broadcasts one hard drive connected to the router (other times both)
I bought two new Western Digital black hard drives so it may be its hard for the router to identify since it labels them by their stock model name (which is the name) as opposed to what I named the drive
My link speed is 2.5G which allows me to backup my computer to a USB hard drive connected to the router as quickly as possible
NAS 12TB storage device (dual ethernet ports), 1 older 1TB networked hard drive (hardwired
My only issue is that I use a USB hard drive connected to the router as a Samba share drive for my network but the router only supports SMB1 for communicating with the drive
n’t get anymore complaints about not connecting or dropped wireless
I was hoping that it would lend itself to placing one RT-AX92U on the first and second floor of my home.when installing the two RT-AX92Us with a gigabit ethernet cable between them, the network speeds were mediocre to abysmal, compared to my old ASUS RT-AC3200.As a second test I disabled AiMesh, removed the second RT-AX92U, and compared it to my old RT-AC3200.The speed of my old router was significantly higher
n’t get anymore complaints about not connecting or dropped wireless
getting way slower speed test results after the switch and weak signals compared to Linksys ac3000/ac1900
On the 5-2 Band, I got the expected 1.7 Gbps link speed(fun fact, while testing this with aggregate wan enabled, every time I connected a 160 Mhz device the routers rebooted themselves, once aggregate wan was disabled this stopped happenning)
It boggles my mind how something that is intended to work so well, with the number of antennas and the amount of power it is transmitting, just doesn't work
The idea that something that is supposed to be advanced will not allow you this basic functionality is mind-bogglingly stupid
